Can you copy garmin microsd cards

Just copy over but with a different name. You can then choose the map you want in the map settings be touching the map name the choose enable or disable. Thanks all. No risk of losing the Garmin maps there? OS strike me as very greedy. Just irks me to pay for the same thing several times over. Have you copied them to somewhere other than the original SD card say as a back up and been able to use them from there?

I just select whichever one I want to use in the Basecamp drop-down. You are giving me some faith everything will be OK, I will try a copy on another card. You need an additional file with a key that unlocks the maps and whilst I believe someone has created software to generate a code for you my attempts to find it have only led to malware so far.

I will just have to swap cards as needed. It appears to be a mapsource problem. I removed the 2GB SD card from my Garmin in connected it directly to my computers card reader and tried the transfer… same problem.

Mapsource complains it does not have enough space for the transfer. As the post says, MapSource will upload map files to a new microSD card in a card reader; if you already have gmapsupp. And to use the files, put the card back into the GPS. Then I transferred all of the selected areas to my 60 CSx in one transfer. It took about an hour and half. Very slick! Also, some older card readers seem unable to read more than 1 Gb. Ok, about 2Gb available but it did NOT help! I guess Mapsource has a problem with 2 Gb microSD.

The only way I found to solve this was to discover which files Mapsource was using during the compilation about 2 hours in my case. There is clearly a big tmp file growing up during the processing. Instead, open the task manager and kill Mapsource. So far, this trick worked fine for me! Hello all! At least, all the rest works fine. I thought there would be a way to copy the GPX file to the microSD card and backtrack it straight from the card or copy it to the internal memory.

Any idea? I took the card out of the unit, put it in a card reader, formatted the micro SD card quick format, default allocation size. I put it back in the device, and was able to transfer maps to it.

I know it has an internal memory that can only hold waypoints. Is it possible to store numerous waypoint files on the microSD card, so that I can transfer them to the internal memory whilst in the field working???????????? I have the North american maps on my unit and i want to install 2 or 3 different maps on the card. But you should be able to install several different mapsets on your SD card, and then choose the one you want to display, using the MapSource program.

Google searches revealed that many Nuvi owners continue to have this problem if they had purchased their unit outside of China. What are the total calibration instructions for making the Nuvi work? Incidentally, why ? There must some logical reason, or is it just Garmin? I have found it easier to create the gmapsupp. But there are two drawbacks to these large-capacity microSD cards: 1. Related posts: Uploading. Oops, guess I should have finished reading the rest of the post before commenting :.

Can this problem be overcome? Hi Peter, If you upload a set of maps to your Garmin, say City Navigator, then do a separate upload of a different set of maps, the first set will be wiped out. Hope this helps, Leszek. Lezsek, thank you for your suggestions, which I sincerely appreciate. One would think that all genuine Garmin maps would be able to be: 1. Downloaded on the same unit; 2. Be viewable separately; and 3. Thanks again for you help. Suggestions: 1.

Try re-installing the latest firmware revision 4. Whats size micro sd card can a 76CSx take? Thanks Leszek, are any brands of cards better than others? Thanks a lot! Hope this may help some others ….

If the map is locked, the lock is tied to the embedded serial number on the SD card. Similarly, if the map got corrupted, will you be able to copy your backup back onto the device? I've never had a map on a Garmin microSD card but I'm guessing it is write protected.

Either way your backup is useless. You can try to write a small file to it to find out if it is or not. I know this sounds pretty dumb, but have you loaded the SD card into your Garmin and confirmed that it is fully functional? I agree with you.
